Rillos Cigar

was having the usual beer session at Cottage when Jo gave me a cigar to try... dunno from where one lah... the wrapper there says "Rillos"...

still in its wrapper...

lit it up, very strong taste... a few times more than that of the typical Dunhil Reds... however, towards the end, it tasted abit weird, and bitter...

dinner @ The Junk

I haven't been to The Junk for more then a year, and on Sunday night, that place was chosen over San Fransisco Grill. one good thing about The Junk is that the second floor is air-conditioned, and smoking is allowed, compared to San Fransisco Grill whereby wanting a puff means having to go outside the restaurant..

the ambience was soothing, with minimal lighting...

ordered a bottle of red wine...

then came the medium done sirloin...

not too bad a place to hangout...

Ambience wise, The Junk wins hands down. However, food wise, San Fransisco Grill edges out on the portion and taste...

badminton @ KGS

was invited to go play badminton at Sarawak Golf Club, also better known as KGS on Sunday afternoon. went there with Daniel and his HSBC managers as well as some other big shots in the corporate world.

the badminton session was pretty okay, albeit my somewhat tight leg muscles halfway into the games even though I've done enough warm-up and put on some cream to loosen the muscles beforehand...

the driving range...

the facilities - tennis courts, badminton & squash hall...

the carpark...

car repair (Part II)

I drove over to one of the Proton Service Centres to ask for another opinion on the squeaking sound of the engine, and the taukeh told me it should be the beltings that were creating all the noise as the two belts were quite worn out, and oily as well. (yea, my car's mileage is now close to 100,000KMs, and the belts have never been changed yet...)

I said go ahead and change it. waited for about 45 minutes for the mechanic to change the belts and clean up the mechanical parts.

took out the engine belting...

the second of the 2 beltings taken out...

Then Walahh!!... started the engine, and it was purring ever so smoothly again... no more irritating squeaks...

paid the RM180, and plus the RM250 I paid for the engine and transmission oil change the other day, this drive of mine just swallowed RM430 of my hard earn money in 2 workshop visits... darn!!!

car problems...

recently, the engine develops this funny squeaking noise once the Drive gear is engaged, and the air-condition turned on. the sound is that loud I could hear it in the car when I lower the player volume...

flushing out the engine oil and transmission fluid...

went over to my air-con mechanic to ask for his opinion. verdict - maybe engine pulley not good liaw... need to check...

then went over to change my engine & transmission oil. asked the other mechanic what seemed to be the problem. verdict - one of the engine mountings (driver side) crack liaw... as the noise only occurs when the air-con is engaged, and gear shifted to "D". plus previously about 2 years ago already got a mechanic friend of mine who told me that the engine mounting got one minor crack... so this time the problem might have been abit worse... sien...

looks like it's time to go 4G63 shopping just in case this 4G18 of mine decides to retire anytime soon... -_-

on a separate case, we have been such regulars at Havana Club that the taukeh-nio has been giving us happy hour rates despite the time...

the front...

4 mugs for RM25... what is there to complain??

less noisy, cool night breeze...

long time no play...

haven't been playing pool for a long long while, and some cheeky dude asked me to play a game or two while we were having the usual drinks...

I still managed to snook out a win out of 3 games, and against some "I dunno lah... heard he's pretty good in some crap open tournament" ----censored---- ... sigh...

*sometimes I wish I could swear freely like FireAngel...*

how long have you not played pool???

belated (all) mothers' day dinner @ Lundu

the mothers' day dinner was decided to be held a week after the actual date, so everyone went back to Lundu on Saturday for the dinner. There are about 7 mums (including my grand) altogether, so there were lotsa people that night...

good was great, company was cool, and plenty of crap talking... too bad my closest cousin was not around... working in Singapore...

will let them pictures do all the talking... hehehe...

the Lundu Teh-C-Peng... RM1.90... freakin' expensive, but you get it sent straight to the shop...

Ping Pong balls... err... I meant turtle eggs... yea I know they are protected endangered species, but what the hell, since they were already in the fridge (dead anyway), just hentam-lah...

close-up shots of the eggs... yea I know it's sinful... but I bet you'll eat them anyway...

you can eat it like this - plus abit of kicap and pepper...

or, add in the kicap and pepper, then smash up everything... they all taste heavenly...

my cholesterol level must have been off the chart that day... ate so many...

random shot behind our Lundu shop...

it was night time, and all the food came...

movie anticipation - BUG

Rated "one of the most DISTURBING horror movies imaginable", this is one movie that I am not gonna miss coming May 25, 2006. I've always enjoy horror and wicked movies, namely The Exorcist series as well as creature/alien themed movies like those of The Eight Legged Freaks, Alien, FrankenFish and Python Vs Boa, so this bug movie is definitely on my movie list this month.

Furthermore, according to the poster above, the movie is directed by the very person who directed The Exorcist, so this increases the reputation and the must-watch factor and ratings of this movie.

I have not read about the gist nor seen the trailer of the movie as of the time of this entry, but both the posters are good enough to draw my attention, and convince me to watch it when it is shown on the big screen, and I'm pretty sure that I'd get a few freak-loving buddies to tag along with me for this blockbuster before going for a few beers to chill out afterwards.

More information of this coming movie could be found at the Lionsgate Films' website:
http://www.lionsgate.com/bug

For those who would want to catch a sneak peak of the movie, there is a movie trailer at youtube:

Satang Island Trip (Part II)

the facilities on the island are minimal at best. a few huts, and a bigger rest house. the Forestry officers who maintain the island and monitor turtles' activities live in another rest house next to ours.

there are two rooms with plank beds, a kitchen, and a pretty run down toilet/bathroom on the other side. no fridge, so in the next trip, I'll be bringing my cold beers in a chiller...

sand-flies are the utmost feared creatures on the island, so we all had to apply plenty of those mozzie-repellent, day and night...

the sky of Satang Island at night was amazing. I didn't sleep for the night, and went out to the shore. the night sky was literally jam-packed with stars, from one end to the other end. never in my life have I seen this kindda thing in Kuching... and it reminded me of the star studded skyline of Aussie, when I was studying there 6 years ago... too bad my camera is not those DSLR, and I couldn't capture the night sky to show off...

then dawn came...

I won't mind staring up to this view every morning when I wake up...

dawn at Satang Island was a sight to behold... truly magnificent...

the sun was up... and everything was just soothing...

the tide was low in the morning, so we went over to the rocky part of the beach to look for oysters...

you don't get it fresher than this babeh!!...

these stuff would put Merdeka Palace's and Majestic Cafe's oyster buffet to shame...

and for no apparent reasons, thongs kept on stumbling onto sea-cucumber buggers when we were searching for oysters...

kuku-lookalike bugger no.1

bugger no.2...

dunno what the hell was this... probably a jelly fish or something... but confirm dead already lah...

and then we were told that there was a turtle which came up at around 5am on the right-most side of the beach...

darn... we all waited for the turtle to come up to lay its eggs until about 3am, but none appeared... then it was low tide already, so we thought it's unlikely that turtles would come up, so went back to nap... sigh... it's just not meant to be...

apparently she only came up for a stroll, and did not lay any eggs... :(

me & Satang Island sand...

I'm definitely coming back to this Island again... most probably in July...
