dinner at the SteakHouse, Kuching

this is *dunno how many posts about* dining at the Hilton Steakhouse...
but what to do?? I dig the stuff there... =.='''

anyway, Diana was back in town, and since having the 50%-off-the-bill card beats any other overpriced dining places, off we went...

will let the pictures do the talking... heh...
Bold
a compulsory shot of the leng-lui before she starts oiling up the lips...

forgot what's this called liaw...

bread, plus butter and other dunno what thingy... =.=''''
sorry for being ignorant...

ahh... this one I know... the usual rib-eye steak, medium... ^__^

oh yea, that was the first time I used my new camera to snap photos at the restaurant... sorry if some of them looked abit blurry at the edge... didn't use flash indoor... and shaky hands I have...

lobster fest...

Daniel and I went to Hilton for dinner 2 weeks ago to celebrate Dan's soon-to-be-wife's birthday, and full compliments to the restaurant captain as after some conversation with the birthday girl, and then without us making any request, brought over a little tiramisu birthday cake for the lady later in the evening.

HOWEVER, the spotlight of the night was actually not that much of the birthday cake, nor the birthday girl, but the massive amount of grilled lobsters that we ordered and stuffed into our tummies.

With a market price tag of around RM80+ per kilogram, I think we ordered more than what we've paid for the buffet on lobsters alone, and eaten a colony of lobsters.

oyster indulgence@Hilton Steakhouse

Jo and I went to the Steakhouse the other night, and for the first time, oysters were on the menu. Apparently, oysters serving is seasonal, and this time it runs from October until November 14.

On top of the usual main courses, I ordered the Ala Mornay Oyster set while the lady went for the Chilled Oysters. I'm not gonna bore you all with snaps of the steaks, but I think pictures of the oysters would be good enough.

Each set consist of 6 huge Australia imported oysters. That odd looking one was an exchange from the greedy woman as she wanted to try out one of the Ala Mornay Oysters. But in the end, I was the one who helped her finish another 2 of her chilled oysters as she wanted to leave some stomach room for her sirloin steak... wtf... -_____-

you hungry yet???

Mitsu Shabu Shabu

it was one of those Saturdays where I was working overtime when I got a call from Jo to go have lunch at this new eating place in town - Mitsu Shabu Shabu... so I took off early from work (yea, overtime is somewhat flexible on Saturdays)...

I'm not a fan of Shabu Shabu as I think it's somewhat overpriced, and the choice of food served is not to my liking... went there mainly to kill time, and also to take a break from work... -____-

wasn't too hungry that time, so I only ordered 2 plates of meat (1 lamb and 1 beef)... nothing much to complain about as the meat was fresh, evenly sliced out, and the soup that you dip those meat into was pretty good...

I forgot how much I paid for my share, but I still think that I could have spent the same amount of my moolahs on more worthy meals (something like rib-eyes, tenderloins or even the buffet at Hilton... get the drift?).

However, for those who are fond of having their food cooked in front of them, by themselves, and sweat it out while dipping the food into the boiling soup, then Mitsu Shabu Shabu is the place to go to - clean, roomy, and with indoor (air-conditioned) or outdoor tables (for smokers)...

assorted snapshots III

just got back from Sabah... dead tired now... and while I compile the tonnes of photos taken, below are some assorted snapshots prior to the Sabah trip...

view from Mount Singai...

sunlight through the canopy...

went for lunch at this Red Dragon Cafe after the Mount Singai climb...

ordered this frog soup (田雞湯), which was surprisingly good... especially the thick soup...

squirrel meat cooked with soy sauce & dried chili... looked impressive but it was a total let down... we weren't even charged for this dish as it was really lousy...

this huge bowl of laksa cost RM6, but I tell ya, it's worth every penny paid...

salmon sushi, salmon sashimi and caviar... I like!!

assorted seafood @ the Hilton Mediterranean Buffet...

and I bought this Camel Active belt before going to Sabah as my old one is almost spoilt...

by far the best I've tasted...

went to The Hilton Steak House for dinner a couple of days back, and I ordered the Steak Diane...

the dish was cooked at the table, with the chef playing these fire stunts to that piece of tenderloin... it was a trill to watch how the steak was being prepared...

presentation looked good eh?? the sauce was a mixture of mushroom, butter, wine and *I forgot*...

the taste was incredible... by far the best I've had there compared to the sirloin, rib-eye and t-bone steaks...
I asked for the meat to be medium done, and the texture of it was way tender and juicier compared with the rest I've mentioned before...
and I only paid RM29.50++ for it... :))

never knew cheese+grapes could taste so damn good...

yea, went for another round of Japanese Buffet at Hilton again on the Saturday -______-'' , but this time, I was taught how to eat cheese mixed with fruits...

I'll spare you guys with all the typical japanese food shots we had, and just show the types of cheese made available that night...

Gouda Cheese, Camembert Cheese and Emmental Cheese...

apparently, the Camembert Cheese has the best of taste when mixed with fruits, especially grapes... you take a bite off the cheese first, let it somewhat melt in your mouth (the cheese tastes just normal... creamy and abit salty), then you pop in the grape... the taste after that, I assure you all, and I kid you not --- is H.E.A.V.E.N.L.Y....

buffet overdose...

The past 10 days had been filled with quite some happenings, and out of the 10 days, I went for 4 different buffet dinners... and frankly I'm tired of buffets, despite them being prepared by 5-star hotels...

Hilton's Japanese Buffet...

the salad bar... mix the stuff of your choice...

chocolate fountain... for those with sweet tooth...

the friendly chef who actually pose for the photo... should try his grilled lobsters... dem good... :)

mussels, typical sashimis, teriyaki chicken, smoked salmon... they were all good...

chawanmushi, fried Japanese chicken, grilled fish, unagi, and octopus cocktails...

this shot was taken at the Majestic Cafe, Crown Plaza when celebrating Hedo's birthday...
the queue at the sushi bar was agonizingly long for the entire buffet period... I bet the chef went home with cramped fingers...

I had enough of sashimis at Hilton already, so I didn't bother to wait it out at the queue, which was somewhat pathetic seeing so many kiasu ppl queuing up (at least 20 minutes before it's your turn) just for some sashimis, or sushis, or those California rolls... imagine a high-class school canteen serving Jap food...

our dining experience was somewhat a disappointment too as the table of 5 that I reserved more than a week ago was taken by some other diners, and the managers on duty directed us to a table that only seats 4 people, ask us to wait till our tables were cleared, sommore at the non-smoking area despite me telling the bugger that I have booked a table at the smoking area... wtf?!!? helo~~ you call yourself a 5-star hotel with this kindda fucked-up service kahh??

I was pissed, and after more than half an hour waiting for the table that I reserved, I just lighted up there and then, followed by Hedo & Hing... 15 minutes later, they promptly set-up an extra table of 4 to accommodate the 5 of us at the smoking area... haihh...

I think the management purposely overbook the place and still they accept walk-in diners , thus causing many diners who have made reservations to wait or seated at non-smoking area instead of their preferred smoking area (or vice versa).

this picture of assorted Sashimi was the one served at Hilton's Northern Indian Buffet on Wednesday night when I went there for dinner with Jo... as good if not better than the ones served at the Jap Buffet of Crown Plaza on Saturday...

Hilton's Mediterranean Buffet on Monday night (my Dad's birthday)... also got serve Japanese food wad... and the variety & quality of the dishes served at Hilton out-shown those of Crown Plaza's...

the different types of cheese cakes I took last night...

one of the many comical shots of Niny on Saturday night...
verdict: she enjoys being tortured/bullied.... -_____-''

happening weekend...

Han and Kari were back over the last weekend, and the rest of us here in Kuching were out 2 nights back-to-back for a get-together just to catch up on things...

went over to Secret Recipe for my meal as I had skipped dinner, and to my disappointment, the Lamb Shank wasn't as good as it looked... :(

Han ordered the kids meal burgers just for fun... -____-''

Kari came over a while later, brought me a Mild Seven One and a Davidoff Lights from his trip to Shanghai... thanks dude...

then on the Saturday night, went to Hilton for dinner as well as to Senso for a drink later...
blardy hell Manchester United lost to Chelsea 1-2, and I ended up footing the bill for the Japanese Buffet dinner we had at the Waterfront Cafe while Daniel (Man-U fans who also lost the bet) paid for Kari's share of the bill at Senso... Kari was the lucky one who only spent like RM50 for the entire night... knn...

(*will blog about the Hilton Japanese Buffet dinner, as well as the Hilton Northern-Indian Buffet dinner on the Wednesday night in a separate post...*)

ordered a bottle of Jim Bean for the night, which we later ended up at Victoria Arms for another 2 rounds of Heineken... Kari was wasted by the time I drove him home at around 2.30am... and the bugger kept on singing in my car... -______-"
