was burning another CD-R yesterday afternoon when my ciplak-brand (CyberDrive actually) CD burner decided to call it quits, with the LED kept blinking despite the fact that I have clicked on the burn button, and the whole process just got hanged... I restarted the computer, but still the burner could not eject the blank CD, and after testing my patience, which was pretty short btw... got forced open using a screwdriver, and there was it... the burner was "certified" dead... on
MERDEKA DAY sommore... knn!!!
however, credit must be given to this burner of mine. it was bought on March 2003 for less than RM200, and has certainly served me well for almost 2.5 years without much burning errors. plus, throughout its lifespan, it has produced at least 10 rims of CD-Rs, which totaled to more than 1,000... sommore has helped me earned more than RM2,000 of extra income on CD sales that I do on a part time basis... *winks*
needing a replacement a.s.a.p, and since it's a holiday, I called up
Ah-J, and went over to Kuching's version of Low Yat Plaza - Wisma Saberkas to do some quick research and after that, get a new burner of course... hehehehe...
went to 3 shops to get an insight of the price range for CD burners and DVD burners. surprisingly, a Sony CD burner cost less than RM100, and a typical branded DVD burner, for instance LG, Pioneer, LiteON, BenQ and Samsung was priced from RM200 - RM350, which was reasonably cheap...
after comfirming that this particular shop -
3E offers the best deal, we went straight it. I remembered reading from some tech magazines stating that BenQ produces some of the best dual layer DVD burners, so in the end, I decided on getting myself t
his - a BenQ DW1640. this burner set me back by RM220, but that's the best deal we've seen, as other shops were selling it at RM250 or more. I was pretty satisfied with the purchase, and got home later to get it installed. the installation was very much standard procedure, and I got it running in about 15 minutes. din't burn any DVDs yet, and only tried a CD-R, which came out puuurfect... hehehehe...
